Abstract

The sprung hinge with an intermediate element is for spectacle arm to frame attachment, the hinge mechanism ensuring a positive open and shut action. the outer edges of the frame (1) each has a shaped insert (5) against which bears the intermediate part (5a) of the hinge. The intermediate part is approximately square with rounded edges acting as a cam, and is trapped on the spectacle arm by a pin (12). Both arms (9) are drilled out to house a helical spring which bears against the cam and is compressed in the arm closed position.
