Abstract

The junction box for fibre optic cables allows inspection and maintenance of splices between incoming and outgoing fibres. The box (10) has an elongated rectangular form with an integral central wall (4) running along the box length and side access panels(11). The cables (2) enter from each end to be divided to either side of the partition, splicing (26) occuring approximately half way along the box. The tension of both fibre bundles is maintained by pulleys (62, 64) over which the bundles are passed. Pairs of pulleys are interlinked by sprung arms (61, 81) such that the splices are held toward the partition.
