Abstract

Parent patent described amorphus compsns. contg. B2O3, Li2O and a Li salt, esp. a halide or chalcogenide, the B2O3 being partially replaceable with Al2O3, V2O5, P2O5, SiO2 and/or GeO2. In this addition, further compsns. are claimed, and all the compsns. are used in mfr. of cationic conditions used in electron generators, Li specific membranes or electrodes for analysis and Li ion dosage in soln. New compsns. are of B2O3.xM.yN .aLi2O.-bLi2Q (I). In (I) M is Al2O3, V2O5, P2O5, As2O3, As2O5; N is SiO2 and/or GeO2; Q is a mono or polyatomic tervalent or polyatomic divalent anion; and O = x =0.35, O = y =0.8, O a =2, O b 1.5, B =2a, Z = 2 or 3 as Q is di- or trivalent. Pref. Q are SO42-, MoO42-, WO42-, N3- and PO43-. Compsns. are stable in water and take the form of glasses having a conductivity of the same order of size as that of beta-Al2O3.
