Abstract

The copy lathe includes a bed for a transversely displacing cross slide (8) on a longitudinally displacing saddle. A overhead track locates a longitudinally displacing plunger carriage, having posts supporting a pivotable gauge rod and the pattern. A sensor is mounted on the cross slide and contacts the master to control slide movement, a ram being used to move the gauge rod into alternate machining positions. Ram operation and saddle movement is governed by stop cylinders with step by step drive, a ram operated tool post being provided on one end of the cross slide. The spindle indexing mechanism is coupled to an electronic speed governer, an electromagnet being used to move the sensor relative to the pattern to finally actuate a valve which control the slide actuating ram.
