Abstract

Bundle of crimped textile filaments in a tow, is wound round with >=1 thread, whilst the filaments are maintained under tension. The tow is then cut into predetermined lengths whilst still under tension, so that the sections of fibres open out as far back as the spirals of thread, to form a mass of fibres in spherical form. Pompom-like spheres can be produced continuously at speed and find use in ornamentation on garments, furniture, etc., whilst they also form a valuable thermal and acoustic insulating material.
