Abstract

A supply hopper of dough is connected to a chamber in which a vacuum is created to draw in a required vol. of dough which fills the chamber completely. The chamber is pref. the swept vol. of a cylinder with reciprocating piston. The piston is pref. retracted by vacuum pressure on its back face. The piston is pref. finely perforated so that dough is sucked against the piston face during retracting. The perforations allow compressed air to assist in the jection of a divided dough piece on the advance stroke of the piston. The connecting passage between hopper and cylinder mouth is pref. pivoted so that it can be swung clear of the cylinder mouth during ejection of dough piece. A single drive transmission shaft pref. activates a vacuum pump, measuring piston ejection stroke cam and connecting passage pivoting motion. Automatic volumetric division of dough pieces for baking loaves of bread. The division is extremely precise and consistent. The dough pieces are not subjected to stress apart from shearing off. The machine is simple, hygienic and inexpensive.
