Abstract

The novel bitument compsn. is pred. by (a) fixing a polyacrylate or polymethacrylate onto a bitument having a penetration of 5-500 and a softening pt. of 20-120 degrees C. (by a grafting procedure using sulphur as grafting agent), and (b) adding a polymer of mol.wt. 100.000-200.000 to the product fromt he first stage (a); this polymer is a linear elastomer. The grafting of (a) facilities the incorporation of (b) and a stabilising effect is also observed. The bitumen compsn. has high elasticity and is partic. suitably in the road-industry, e.g. drainage coatings, surface coatings, and for caulking purposes, bituminous felts, mastics, etc.
