Abstract

A core to produce a cavity in a casting consists of a heat resistant tube which contains reinforcements. The tube is preferably made of woven or knitted heat resistant fibres (glass, carbon, asbestos). The preferred reinforcement consists of copper or mild steel wires. The tube is coated with a heat resistant lubricant (graphite) after the reinforcement has been inserted and can be bent if curved holes are to be cast. Relatively small long holes can thus be cast without risk of fracturing the core.
