Abstract

Plastics containers provided with nonplastics cover foils are hermetically sealed by supporting the lower face of the container lip on a support and pressing the cover foil with a heated electrode, against the lip and support to melt the plastics material of the lip along a strip corresp. to the width of the electrode, so as to form a seal which extends at least to one side of the support. Used for sealing containers filled foodstuffs or pharmaceuticals. Cover foils of paper, cardboard or aluminium are held in flat condition and stresses leading to ruptures of cover foils are prevented from developing.
