Abstract

Pads for protecting body joints such as knees, elbows, shoulders from knocks during games or sports are made from sheets of semi-rigid cellular material, pref. polyethylene, shaped so that the apex of the bend is protected by relatively thick material and that the pad obtains extra support in the bent position by butting of the edges of 'V' section profiles in the edges of the pad alongside the apex of the pad. Apex of the pad may be covered with a small shell of more rigid material (i.e. None-cellular polyethylene), pref. secured by rivets inset into the foam pad body without affecting the internal face of the pad. Pad is simpler to mfr. and offers better protection than pads of stuffed fabric with a thin joint at the apex of the pad. The pads are pref. secured by the elastic straps.
