Abstract

The heat storage mass is located on a rotor with a vertical axis. Both the top and bottom of the mass are covered by an inner ring disc fitted with spring loaded hinges for ring segments (a, b) pressed against the mass to form seals. Each segment is fitted with a measuring sensor undergoing a change of capacitance when the prescribed sealing gap varies. Each sensor is connected to a high frequency amplifier which adjusts a valve feeding pressurised fluid to a work cylinder which the segments to maintain a constant sealing gap. Spring loaded sealing plates are also used on the periphery of the rotor. the sensors are not subjected to wear or corrosion, and operate satisfactorily at high temps.
