Abstract

The compound spacer is used in the fabrication of lattice work trusses of which the bottom flange is encased in concrete, providing pockets with clips for the locations of both reinforcing bars (2, 3) and the bottoms (1, 4) of truss web members. The truss may be used in roof or ceiling construction, the concrete casing having grooves or similar for the location of timber joists. Three legs (12, 13) may project from a horizontal body to maintain concrete cover, and the top surface may provide four pockets, two central and one at each end. The latter may have an assymetric 'U' section, the longer outer leg (5, 6) having a semi-arrowhead formation (7, 8) retaining a complementary return of a web member.
