Abstract

The coded information on the perforated card is in the form of a matrix of binary marks. Movement of the card in the reader is in a direction parallel to the lines (respective to the columns) of the matrix. Detection of the coded data is along each of the successive columns (respective to each of the lines). Each of the columns is referenced by a number. The number referencing is made by synchronising with the movement of the card the movement of at least a reference track having as many binary marks as there are columns in the matrix. The pairs of successive binary states on the track are detected so as to furnish the column number and by calculating the decimal number of the column from the number.
