Abstract

The rotary bit forms a circumferential 'V' section groove in the bore of a pre-drilled hole, thus provided improved retention of radially expanding bolt anchors etc. A plate (5) with an angular cutting edge is pinned (6) within a diametric closed slot in a cylindrical shaft (1), the cutting edge progressively emerging under the action of centrifugal forces as the shaft rotates. The hole may be blind or open and need not be to close dimensional tolerances, the generated groove profile being uniform or otherwise.
