Abstract

The joints and the twin set forming the seal in the bore of a sliding spindle valve are fixed to allow the spindle to move through them. The stop bosses on the spindle are smooth and the valve is closed by moving the spindle in either direction. Complete sealing is obtd. with the twin set seal positioned between the inlet and outlet ports. The twin set is formed by a ring of 'U'-cross-section and is of material having very low friction with the spindle, such as PTFE, inside which an elastic toroid ring is fitted. The bore in which the spindle slides may be formed by the bores of two coaxial liner cylinders in the valve body. The design of the valve is much simpler and the constant stretching and shear loading applied to the seals in conventional valves is eliminated.
