Abstract
A chromatography appts., comprising a column to contain the stationary phase, and means of collecting and discharging the eluate, incorporates in the column a tube made of elastically deformable material. The tube can be expanded when it is connected to a source of compressed gas, so as to subject the stationary phase to a radial press. Problems associated with the formation of a dead space at the top of the column, due to settling of the stationary phase, are avoided. The method is simpler than existing methods of overcoming this inconvenience.
