Abstract

The osteosynthesis plate is for surgical treatment of fractures and osteotomies. It is of a composite material having a modulus of elasticity similar to that of the bone. Its contact face with the bone can have a very rough surface, formed by small bosses preventing slippage on the bone, and covered with a thin film of hard material, typically ceramic and less than 0.5 mm thick. Alternatively a metal film can be used, or a composite metal deposit. The cross-section of the plate can be calculated in accordance with the effort at this point, to give the desired modulus of elasticity.
