Abstract

The length of water pipe has a built-on inspection chamber(4) with cover. The pipe is of circular section with a demi-round channel through the chamber, and the longitudinal vertical walls(12) of the chamber are tangential extensions on each channel side. The opening is provided on the top, and the interior of the chamber is contoured to provide positive location for demountable valve gear. The transverse walls(11) of the chamber terminate basally on the pipe barrel, and the interior of the chamber has two invert-steps(9, 10) with two transverse ribs(14, 15) forming a guide-channel(16). The steps(9, 10) lower the invert in the direction of flow and decrease in depth(H) from the centre to the sides of the pipe. One step(9) locates nominally downstream of the upstream end-wall(11), and the other(10) approximately mid-way in the chamber by the downstream rib(15).
