Abstract
Use of peptidoglycans (I) in the form of natural, insoluble extracts of bacteria, esp. of the genus Bacillus, as pharmaceuticals is new. Pref. the bacteria used are B. megaterium (ATCC 14581), B.licheniformis (ATCC 9945) and Corynebacterium poinsettiae (NCPPB 846). Pref. compsns. are aq. suspensions, opt. contg. an antiseptic, formulated for admin. by injection. (I) are useful as a complement to other anticancer treatments to prevent metastatis and relapses. They can be administered at about 1 mg/10 kg 1-2 times per week. Their side effects (if any) are less severe than those of C. parvum extracts.
