Abstract
The filter bed includes sand of a variety of particle sizes, filled in with clay in varying proportions. Passage through this bed eliminates from the water most of the iron and its argillaceous attachments as well as manganese. The filtered water is pref. further purified by passing through a bed of activated carbon. The installation pref. comprises, e.g. between the sand and activated carbon filters, a porous element contactor into which is injected air or other gas. The contactor delivers via a nozzle water freed of iron and manganese, or via a further treatment which also eliminates calcium. Used for demineralisation of natural water, partic. for drinking or for the mfr. of mineral waters. The simple inexpensive system is easy to operate.
