Abstract

The elements are used to cover frames made of metal or other materials, boxes or chambers, or reinforcing structures; and consist of four layers (1) a final or impregnated layer using an alkali metal silicate, clay and a catalyst (1a) for setting and stabilisation; (2) a core of fibrous mineral or organic foam impregnated with layer (1); (3) an adhesion layer of the same type as layer (1); and (4) an outer, flexible layer of Al, glass fibre mat, glass fabric, glass mesh, woven or non-woven fabric, or kraft paper, and contg. grooves. Pref. layer (1) is 70-96, esp. 35-91% of aq. conc. sodium silicate, with 2-20, esp. 2-15% clay, esp. kaolin, 10-2% catalyst (1a), esp. an alkali metal fluorosilicate, and 5-40% mineral filler, esp. perlite. This lagging withstands temps. >1150 degrees C for over 2 hrs.
