Abstract

Azo pigments are treated with amines by treating the pigment with an aromatic, aliphatic or cycloaliphatic amine at a temperature above the melting point of the amine and then with water and an acid at a pH at which the amine dissolves completely in water and finally separating of the amine-free pigment. The azo pigments are notable in application for high gloss, good rheology, high hiding power and good light and weather fastness.
