Abstract

The surgical brace is used for securing a fracture of the upper end of the femur and consists of an external tubular support (1). This has a number of holes and vertical and horizontal slots, these locating screwed rods (1b) which are fixed in the bone. The slots permit the rods to be used at any suitable angle, to immobilise the fractured bone to the pelvis. Each rod has a plain end entering the tubular support and is locked by means of a taper collet tapped into the hole socket and fixed by screws.
