Abstract

An electric generator (5) is driven through a speed increasing gear train (3) from a windmill (1). The current from the generator (5) is transmitted by cables (6) to a heating element (7) immersed in oil (8). The energy of the wind is thus converted into heat and stored in the oil (8). When the heat is required, the hot oil is pumped through a heat exchanger (10) which supplies hot water through the pipes (12) for central heating or similar purposes. Instead of an electric generator the windmill may be used to generate heat directly through a brake.
