Abstract
The heater has a plate-like P.T.C. resistance heating element (2) providing equal heat discharge from both sides of the plate. The plate has a thickness in the range 0.5 to 2 mm and the P.T.C. material has a resistivity at its curie temperature and at an electric field strength of 2000 v/cm in the range 103 to 6 x 103 ohms. cm. The arrangement allows the element to emit more than 50 watts/cm2 heat power. The curie temperature is at least 50 deg. K greater than max operational temperature. The element is covered by thermally conductive electrically insulating layers (212, 222) and fits in a recess closed by a metal push or screw fit plug (11). The heater may be used domestic equipment e.g. egg boiler, coffee percolator.
