Abstract

Packs for holding fragile articles are made from combinations of rigid boxes, pref. of expanded polystyrene, having serrated cavity walls and fitted with modular prefabricated spacers having ribbed faces to engage teh walls within the box. The spacers have three basic forms - partitions, pref. with recesses to suit the ends of specific articles; - annular spacers to provide axial support between partition inserts and the end of the box cavity; - short or annular spacers to support at intervals the clearance between the article and the sides of the box cavity. The spacers may be mouldings of e.g. expanded polystyrene. Enables a variety of articles to be packed securely using a relatively small variety of pack components.
