Abstract

A thermostat for a vehicle engine has a housing (1) which is fixed to the crankcase by two bolts. The thermostat body (2) has a flange which abuts against an internal flange in the housing (1). This flange is held in place by a compression spring which is, in turn, secured by a screwed cap (4). This design of thermostat is easily fitted and replaced since no special tools are needed. This feature allows the use of different thermostats for summer and for winter so that the engine operates under the most favourable conditions.
