Abstract

The framework for spectacles, has side shield elements and a hinge between the individual lenses. The hinge mechanism improves the aesthetic appearance of the glasses, provides protection against shock and allows vertical movement of one lens relative to the other. The hinge (13) consists of a rectangular block of synthetic flexible material having a short spur on either side which separates the seating rims of the two lenses (10). The two rims may be attached to the hinge using a glue or threading, the hinge itself having two tail pieces (20) running under the rims.
