Abstract

The lining is repaired inside a container for molten metal where the container can rotate on its longitudinal axis and is mounted on an undercarriage. On one end of the container, e.g. a torpedo, is a closable opening, through which a lance is inserted and used to spray repair material onto the refractor lining while the latter is still hot, and while the torpedo is rotated. The lance is then moved along the longitudinal axis of the torpedo by either withdrawing the lance or moving the torpedo. The pref. plant consists of a lance with a water-cooled jacket and an outlet nozzle pointing downwards. The lance is mounted via pivots on either a bogie employed to withdraw the lance from the torpedo, on a stationary base; and a work cylinder is used to tilt the lance on its horizontal, transverse pivot axis. Rapid and inexpensive repair of torpedo wagons in the iron and steel industry is afforded.
