Abstract
The scrap consists of a conc. aq. soln. or suspension, which may contain actinides, and which is evapd. to obtain a concentrate (A) contg. 40-80% solids, including 10-30% metal- ions and/or -oxides; and the pH is adjusted to 5-10. (A) is mixed with a clay (B) contg. cement or an additive suppressing the volatility of alkali(ne earth) metals or the decomposable ions SO4, PO4, molybdates and/or uranates. The mixt. has wt. ratio (A):(B) of 1:1 to 2:1. Mixt (AB) is moulded, the mouldings being dried at =150 degrees C.; calcined at =800 degrees C.; sintered at 800-1400 degrees C. to form insol. minerals; and continuously encapsulated in a sealed ceramic or metallic mass. Material (B) is pref. 10 pts. wt. clay with 1-2 pts. wt. cement contg. 20-30% SiO2 and 40-70% CaO. The mouldings (AB) may consist of pellets.
