Abstract

Soln. of FeSO4 is oxidised to Fe2(SO4)3 in the presence of a base, then injected into (used) water to cause coagulation. The FeSO4 soln. concn. is pref. 100-200 g./l., and oxidn. is effected by air, oxygen or H2O2. The base maintains the pH at 8.5-9. The quantity of FeSO4 introduced can be controlled by the supply of water to be treated, the quantity of oxidant by the residual concn. of oxygen in the oxidn. tank, and the quantity of base by the pH. FeSO4 is available as a by-prod. from the mfr. of TiO2. Prior partial oxidn. problems are eliminated by the pre-oxidn.
