Abstract

The resectoscope is used for surgical work in the urethra and comprises a tubular sheath (12) fixed to a grip handle. Behind this is an optical system and a source of illumination. The electrodes (16) used to conduct the electrical current to the resecting loop (15) are fitted into the open end (6) of the tubular sheath. The current is transferred to these electrodes through contacts (28) within the sheath. Since the current flow between electrodes is established inside the sheath and its protective guide, no tissue damage is caused by leakage causing burns.
