Abstract

The positive temperature coefficient resistance is designed to be used as a current limiter in an electrical circuit. The resistance is enclosed in a prefabricated element whose total mass has been increased above the physical mass of the body of the resistance. The increase in mass is achieved by covering the body of the resistance with a material. The material has a density which varies in response to exterior forces, and is a conduction of heat. The material provides an increased thermal inertia for the resistance which eliminates the need to make over-dimensioned resistors for certain applications. The material improves heat dissipation from the parts of the resistor body where connection wires are soldered to the body. Thus local mechanical fatigue at these points is reduced.
