Abstract
A coil winding machine is for bobbins having multi-layer wire windings. The machine has a winding or feed arm which accurately and consistantly tracks the wire along the bobbin reversing its direction at each end of the bobbin. The machine is driven via pulleys (12) and a belt (13) from an electric motor (11), braking and coupling being by electro-magnetic units. The feed arm can rotate in both horizontal and vertical planes and is made of some light rigid material. Reversal of the winding sense is achieved by a separate electro-magnetic coupling and the point at which this occurs is controlled by a fibre-optic head and detector.
