Abstract

The hopper is used in an installation for sorting postal packets and parcels. It is positioned over a final destination receptacle and receives the items in accordance with the sorting code printed on them. These items pass down a hinged chute to fall into the hopper, this being in the form of an open-top box. When the hopper is full, it descends vertically on guides and flaps comprising the bottom of the box open downwards. The contents of the box are deposited into the final destination receptacle, without damage, and the hopper returns upwards to its original position.
