Abstract

Modified polyorganosiloxanes are prepd. by free-radical polymerisation of mixts. of acrylic esters and acrylonitrile (both of which may be substd)., the proportion of acrylonitrile in the mixt. being 5-95 (pref. 10-70) mole % in presence of polyorganosiloxanes (which comprise 25-75, andpref. 30-50% by wt of total). The prod. is reacted with cross-linking agents, esp. Si cpds. containing is not 3 hydrolysable atoms or gps. per molecule, possibly in presence of condensation catalysts. The modified polyorganosiloxanes are heated before and/or after (but pref. before) the section with cross-linking agents for is not 4h at 125-300 degrees C (pref. is not 24h at 150-270 degrees C) in presence of air. Prods. are much more oil-resistant than previously known prods. and are useful for growing equipment likely to be in contact with hydraulic liqs., or lubricants or similar oils. Oil-resistance inceases with proportion of acrylonitrile in the mixt.
