Abstract
A mass is measured in a balance in which an optoelectronic system detects movement caused by the mass. This movement causes modulation of light to produce movement of moire fringes which is sensed by an optoelectronic system. A balance (10) has a platform (14) to support a load and which moves vertically on a plunger (16) on which crank arms (18, 20) are mountd to pivot to produce linear movement of the platform. A moire optoelectronic transducer (38) slides n vertical guide shafts (34, 36) between base pieces (26, 28) on the detector (12). Platform movement is transferred by a shaft (52) to move the transducer. This modulates light beam to cause movemnt of moire fringes measured by photoele ctric cells.
