Abstract

The highway surfacing material comprises a solidifying binder, a layer of loose hard chippings and a filler. The binder is placed first and is a liquid material which solidifies due to temperature drop, drying or polymerisation. The chippings are placed next and are of such a size that they anchor in the binder. Finally, the filler, which has auto-agglomerative properties is placed to complete the carpet. The filler comprises fines, serves to hold the chippings in position, and is placed to such a depth that the tops of the chippings remain exposed. The carpet may be laid by spreading the binder, the chippings and the filler in succession and finally rolling and sweeping.
