Abstract

The hydrated lime used for making plaster is subjected to a treatment with carbon dioxide. The technical calcined gypsum plaster made by the process contains 1-10% by weight of hydrated lime, of which 1-10% by weight have been converted by the treatment with carbon dioxide into calcium carbonate. The prefabricated, gypsum-based dry mortar is storage-stable with respect to the processing times, and its manufacture is simple and economical. The amount of retarder required for adjusting processing times suitable for the building site can be substantially reduced. The evolution of strength hardly differs from that of conventional plasters. Since the plaster is somewhat stiffer at the same water/gypsum ratio, the amount sprinkled in can be reduced. The adhesive strength is not reduced.
