Abstract

The esters have formula (R1)(R2)CH-COOC18H35 in which R18H35 in which R1 is 1-5C alkyl, phenyl, benzyl, phenylethyl or phenoxy opt. substd. by 1 or 2 Cl atoms, hydroxy gps. or methoxy gps. and R2 is H or 1-3C alkyl. The compsns contain 0.1-50% of the ester. Novel esters are the 9-octadecenyl-2-methyl-propanoate 2-ethyl hexanoate, 3,3-dimethyl-butanoate, phenylpropanoate, phenylbutanoate, alpha-methyl phenylacetate 2-phenoxy-propanoate, 13- and 14-chlorophenoxyacetates, (3- and 4- hydroxy) phenoxy acetates, (3-methoxy and 3,5-dimethoxy) phenoxyacetates. The compsns. may be used as pomades, creams, gels, soaps, lotions, milks, bath oils, masks and aerosols. The esters inhibit the enzymes, partic. lipases and proteases secreted by Corynebacterium acnes on the skin surface which can give rise to local inflammations.
