Abstract

Organ prosthesis, e.g. urethra, ureter, bladder, heart or vessel, is mfd. by depositing on a preform by spraying, thin-film coating, varnishing, lacquering etc. a soln. which on cooling forms a gel with a liquid-gaseous surface at the gel-air interface. A curable flexible material e.g. a silicone elastomer which is compatible with body fluids and tissues is then applied by spraying, flowing, etc. to the resulting pattern, and after curing the prosthesis is removed from the mould. Pref. the heated preform is made of wear-resistant material e.g. metal, glass or plastic with a clean fairly smooth surface, and after curing the gel is removed by reheating, rinsing and dissolving, after which the preform is simply withdrawn from the prosthesis.
