Abstract

The lens for guiding impinging sunlight on to a straight heat absorbant pipe carrying a heat exchanger fluid comprises an array of parallel strips of flat mirrors which can be indepedantly tilted to reflect directly impinging heat on to the pipe surface. The system is simpler and cheaper to construct than one-piece curved mirrors to suit the top of a wide trap. Pref. the trap has inclined reflective walls linked by a narrow reflective base below the pipe. Pref. the pipe axis is aligned with that of the earth. so that the mirrors do not have to move to compensate for diurnal rotation.
