Abstract

Diethylpropion (2-diethylaminopropiophenone (I)) resinate comprises the combination of a sodium polystyrene sulphonate cation exchange resin and (I) hydrochloride. (I) is a known anorectic (BE 556756). This resinate gives prolonged release, an oral dose being released gradually over >=12 hrs. The resinate may be formulated in the classical forms for oral administration as pills, dragees, gelules, tablets, capsules, powders, suspensions, gels etc. And contains the equivalent of three normal doses taken over 12 hrs. One dose comprises 25-150 mg of the resinate, generally 75 mg. In vitro and in vivo tests are described. The product is stable, and has a longer half-eye than known slow release dipropion resinates.
