Abstract

The plant processes the waste material by means of continuous comminution and rearrangement in a reactor tower (1), by aerating the waste material at various levels of the reaction tower (1) and, if appropriate, by adding quicklime or milk of lime so as to provide conditions which are favourable for rapid composting. The waste material, which has been precomminuted by means of a first comminution arrangement (11), is conveyed to the inlet shaft (7) at the top end of the reaction tower (1), where it is granulated by means of a fast-running chopper (21). While the granules fall down under exposure to turbulence, quicklime dust can be blown in and, if appropriate, water can be sprayed in. The waste material which accumulates is aerated by blowing in compressed air through compressed-air piping (31, 32). A third comminution device (27) is arranged in the outlet shaft (25) of the reaction tower (1), which tapers downwards. The waste material comminuted by this third comminution device can be conveyed, by means of a conveying device (28) to the removal point (29) or added to the precomminuted waste material to be conveyed to the inlet (4) of the reaction tower (1).
