Abstract
Catalysts for disproportionation or transalkylation of 7-15 C alkylaromatic hydrocarbons (esp. toluene) comprise H-mordenite contg. 0.1-10 (pref. 1-5) wt. % of >=1 rare earth metal. The catalysts have high stability and contain no expensive precious metals. The catalysts can be prepd. by contacting H- or NH4-mordenite with an aq. soln. of >=1 rare earth metal salt at 50-90 degrees C for 1-5 hr., washing, drying at 100-150 degrees C for 10-20 hr., and calcining at 450-700 degrees C for 1-20 hr. The product should contain 0.01-0.2 (pref. 0.01-0.1) wt. % Na.
