Abstract

A monopedal structure comprises an infrastructure, a tower and a superstructure. The infra-structure rests on the sea-bed and consists of an apron and ballasting and storage capacities. The tower supports the superstructure which consists of a platform on which are the drilling equipment, the treatment works and the living quarters. The drilling equipment occupies a part away from the treatment plant and the living quarters. A part of the platform is supported by pillars, the platform being off-centre in relation to the tower. The part occupied by the drilling equipment is vertically over the tower, while the part occupied by the treatment works and the living quarters is supported by the pillars, which bear on the base. The tower contains a water-tight shaft offset with respect to its axis. The decentralising of the shaft and the platform in relation to the tower allow the dia. of the tower to be reduced while its drilling capacity is retained, and combines the advantages of monopedal and columned structures. It is structurally sound and rigid.
