Abstract

In the continuous conversion of hydrocarbons in presence of a catalyst, a feed charge consisting of hydrocarbons and H2 is circulated through >=1 reaction zone of the moving bed type. The catalyst flows progressively downwards through this zone, is removed from the bottom part of the zone, and is fed to a regeneration zone. The regenerated catalyst is led through a redn. zone, at 480-530 degrees C which is charged with H2 and which is heated by a part of the charge or by the reaction effluent. The regenerated and reduced catalyst is passed from the redn. zone to the upper part of the reaction zone through several pipes which form a sulphurisation zone, separate from the redn. zone and the reaction zone, and the catalyst circulates as a mobile bed and is sulphided at a temp. below the temp. of redn. and reaction ie. at 300-400 degrees C (310-380 degrees C) by means of a gas contg. a S cpd. The temps. of sulphiding and redn. are lower than the reaction temp. and are easily controlled; sulphiding and redn. zones are heated independently of the first reactor. The redn. and sulphiding zones are sepd. from the reaction zone, thus reducing the danger of explosion, e.g. an explosion in the redn. zone is less likely to reach the reaction zone than in known processes.
