bis(2-phenoxy alkane carboxylic) acid derivs. of formula (I) are new: (where R1 = H or 1-5C alkyl; R2 = 1-10C straight or branched alkyl; X1-4 = H, halogen or lower alkyl, >=1 being other than H). Parent patent covers cpds. (I) in which X,-X4 = H. A typical prod. is 4,4'-oxy di ethyl 2-(2-chloro)phenoxy octanoate , n20D = 1.518. In an example, this was prepd. from 4,4'-Oxy di(2'chlorophenol) and ethyl 2-bromooctanoate in xylene in the presence of sodium ethoxide.
