Abstract

Composite mouldings are made by prepg. a lightly pressed laminated preform having a layer of resin impregnated wood chippings enclosed between two layers of resin impregnated sawdust, then compressing and curing the preform in a hot press. The surfaces of the moulding are subsequently coated with resin dressed with a layer of fine sand from whch excess material is brushed or blown away. Used for mfr. of relatively light wt. (750 g./m3), low cost slabs with mineral surfaces for cladding buildings etc. to resemble brick, tile or natural stone facings.
