Abstract
The mill comprises a circular frame, a discharge chute with a perforated grid arranged above the outlet; a wall is placed above and around this opening so as to define a grinding chamber between the lower face of the base plate and the hood. A motor is mounted on the base plate with its shaft vertical; this penetrates into the grinding chamber and carries two cutting blades. The material to be ground is poured into the charging hopper with the motor running at a speed of 25,000 rpm. The grains descend through the pipes to the grinding chamber where they are subjected to the impacts of the rotating blades co-operating with the grid; some of the grains too large to pass the grid are thrown against the walls of the chamber and are pushed back until they are again struck by the blades until they are sufficiently small to pass through the meshes of the grid into the discharge chute. The dwell time in the grinding chamber is extremely short, because of the high speed of the cutters, so the temperature of the matl. does not rise very much; certain biochemical properties, therefore are not deteriorated as with conventional mills. The mill is strongly constructed and can be transported and installed without the need for skilled labour.
